Defensive Ends

deorakpo11.  Brian Orakpo, Texas, 6030 263, 4.70 (1)

Strengths: Incredible natural athlete…very smooth and fluid…has exceptional quickness and straight line speed…makes plays…can play in 3-4 or 4-3 defense…sack artist

Weaknesses: Inconsistency…has a tendency to disappear if he doesn’t get a good start…relies too heavily on natural abilities and needs to improve technique…is a bit of a tweener…may not have bulk to line up every down…knee injuries are a concern…can be dominated by more physical O linemen…not a run stopper

debrown12.  Everette Brown, FSU, 6014 256, 4.73 (1)

Strengths: Speed…is very fast for a defensive end…has incredible quickness and initial step…productive guy who finds a way to get to the quarterback…great pass rusher

Weaknesses: Size…lacks bulk to hold up against the run and does not show great willingness to stop it…will most likely be too small to play on the line…has to prove he can stand up as a linebacker in the NFL

dejackson13.  Tyson Jackson, LSU, 6042 296, 4.91 (1)

Strengths: Size…is a massive DE who can play at nearly 300lbs…is great against the run…will be a perfect fit as an end in a 3-4…has the strength to push O linemen into the backfield…will not get pushed around by brute force…size allows him to be very versatile…can move inside and play DT in a 4-3

Weaknesses: Lacks elite quickness…not a very fast guy…not a threat to put consistent pressure on the quarterback…relies too much on pure strength to beat O linemen…must improve technique

demaybin14.  Aaron Maybin, Penn St, 6036 249, 4.89 (1)

Strengths: Very quick first step…great burst and beat tackles off the edge…very productive season…was part of a great Penn St defense…stepped up and played incredibly when others got injured…has a natural ability to get to the quarterback and create sacks…uses hands well to beat O linemen…never stops working…plays to the whistle…above average speed

Weaknesses: Is on the smaller side…not as big as teams would like…height could be an issue…can get pushed around by bigger tackles with decent quickness…only one year of productivity…not a huge threat to stop the run

dejohnson15.  Michael Johnson, Georgia Tech, 6067 266, 4.61 (1)

Strengths: Is an absolute freak as an athlete…has the best blend of size and speed in the draft…has great quikcness, agility and speed…when he’s on he’s an absolute force…closing speed is dangerous…has a long lean frame…tremendous upside and potential…has long arms and can swat passes down at the line…has frame to bulk up to around 280 without sacrificing speed

Weaknesses: Lacks experience…has only started for one season…is too thin and can be pushed back by stronger linemen…has been inconsistent…production does not match physical attributes, of course he would need about 30 sacks to match his physical attributes.
